This is the face I want to remember for the rest of my life. I see my mother in this face. I see all of my aunts and my cousins in this face. I see a huge family that all came to be because she was in this world. I made a hard decision - one that I know not everyone will agree with. I'm not going to her funeral. Because this is the face I want to remember. You know, days go by and I keep remembering so many little things that I had forgotten. Triple decker sandwiches. Terrible for you, but when my Grammy made them, they were the most delicious things on earth. And her french toast. No one ever made better french toast. I remember her little house on Gray Street - the one where the hurricane came through and knocked down the tree across the street. I remember being a teenager and getting the chance to earn extra Christmas money helping wrap presents for the family she was working for. My grammy was a caregiver. She took care of older people, sick people, handicapped peop...

So there goes my life...

Because it's Friday night and I'm sitting here eating Ben & Jerry's and missing him, I thought to myself; Self, you should write about what it's really like to be in a long distance relationship. (read as Warning:self-indulgent rant about the reality of being in a long distance relationship.) Sure, initially it's a romantic notion - you and your significant other against the world, beating the odds, not letting a little thing like location keep you from being in love. You have the security of being in a relationship while at the same time truly being able to keep your individuality and freedom. And the visits and conversations you have will be that much more meaningful because your time together is limited so you'll cherish each moment because it will be months before you are able to see each other again. The boy's father is no longer involved in our lives. And while there are always two sides to every story, if you know me, I think you will know which side is the more accurate version. He once had a good, caring father, and I think that is what hurts me the most sometimes. We used to celebrate this day with daddy. When my son was a baby, you would not have found a more caring and devoted father. But choices were made and things that can't be undone were done, so we don't do the same things. So for several years now, I've been both mom and dad for my son. I used to be angry about this. I used to cry and scream and tell the world it wasn't fair. I grew up in a mostly strong female household with a very weak father, how was I supposed to handle raising a son? And yet, somehow I've managed. I...

In a perfect world, I should not have to explain either of these movies to anyone. Because in said perfect world, these would be mandatory viewing. And don't ever ask me to choose between these two movies, as I would never, ever be able to pick just one as my favorite movie of all time. Short and sweet this morning...a nd these are in no particular order... Ren and Stimpy - As a 90's girl, I adore these two characters. And I am not splitting them up for to do so would be a travesty! Marvin the Martian - I always adored this character but when Geoff would do the voice impersonations for me years ago, I loved it even more. And this one is a duh if you know me at all! Strawberry Shortcake! I used to collect vintage Strawberry Shortcake stuff but all was lost in the non-divorce :(

I write a lot about music, but I guess it's a good thing. These challenges like to make you use music in them, and my other blogging group just did a music topic last week. I have quite varied tastes, so expect to see very different stuff posted every time, depending on my mood! #1 Jason Mraz - Plane: You see, in case you aren't aware, I am in love with a man who lives almost 1500 miles away from me.
